Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect, share insights, and build relationships that can shape the future of drone operations. Registration will be shared with all attendees.

Dear emergency services working with drones

We are excited to announce the evolution of the Drone as First Responder (DFR) paradigm. Following the incredible success of the INTERPOL Drone Expert Summit held in Chula Vista last year, we have taken the DFR concept one step further.

Introducing DFR^2 – Drone as First Responder and Drone for First Responder. These two functions are set to revolutionize the way emergency services operate with drones.

DFR^2 opens up new possibilities for using drones in emergency situations. With the Drone as First Responder function, drones can quickly and efficiently assess a situation, gather crucial data, and provide valuable information to emergency responders. Drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras, high-resolution cameras, and other advanced sensors can now act as first-line responders, providing critical information to emergency teams on the ground. This real-time data can significantly enhance decision-making and response times, ultimately saving lives.

On the other hand, the Drone for First Responder function focuses on the use of drones as support tools for emergency personnel. Drones can carry essential supplies, such as medical equipment, water, or communication devices, to hard-to-reach areas or in situations where human access is limited. This function expands the capabilities of emergency services by providing them with an additional resource that can rapidly deliver crucial supplies to those in need.

By combining the capabilities of both functions, emergency services can achieve a comprehensive and highly effective response strategy. DFR^2 not only enhances the safety and efficiency of emergency operations but also improves the overall effectiveness of emergency response efforts.

We believe that the integration of DFR^2 into emergency service protocols will significantly impact the way emergencies are managed. The rapid deployment and versatility of drones make them indispensable tools for modern emergency services. We encourage all emergency services working with drones to explore the possibilities offered by DFR^2 and consider implementing this innovative approach into their operations.

Together, let us embrace the future of emergency response and harness the power of drones to save lives.

Introduction to Night Mapping via Drones– Training Overview

FoxFury is presenting a specialized training course on mapping and documenting traffic, forensic and fire investigation scenes. This two-part course is designed to give an overview of the tools and techniques needed to effectively and accurately map nighttime scenes. The training is delivered by our highly experienced Director of Training, Aaron Beckman, and will provide participants with the skills necessary to operate drones and set up the software, camera and lights for optimal results.

Documenting scenes at night is critical as 49% of fatal car accidents and 60+% of homicides occur at night. This course is designed to help people of all skill levels learn techniques to better use the drone to map and document scenes correctly the first time.

Part 1 will be on site at IDES 2024. It will be 2 hours of combined field instruction along with a hands-on mock night scene to ensure that each participant gains practical experience in mapping at night with drones and utilizing the camera, software, and lights to ensure optimal results. The training is focused on the use of FoxFury Nomad lights, covering light set up and placement in small to medium night scenes.

Participants will fly a sample night scene using a variety of lights to learn about overcoming shadows and hotspots.

Part 2 will consist of an online 2 hour classroom portion where students will share maps they generated at IDES 2024 and receive real time feedback of what was done well along with areas for improvement. Recommendations and instruction will be provided to help students generate higher quality maps in the future.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to efficiently and safely map night scenes using small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and understanding the advantages and limitations of different drone, software and lighting systems.

Operators simply define the mission goal, and the system autonomously handles flight routes, camera control, and coordination. This approach enhances safety, ensures compliance with regulations, and allows first responders to focus on their mission—without the complexities of manual drone control.

Enhancing DFR operations with indoor capacity

By Don Redmond - Vice President of Advanced Public Safety Projects at BRINC

In recent years, sharp criticism and scrutiny have occurred on high-profile use-of-force cases by the police. Law enforcement is asked to reimagine police response to reduce the incidents of force and mitigate violent confrontations with the community. The critical goal of every law enforcement interaction with the community is to have voluntary compliance and when this does not occur, to de-escalate the situation as quickly as possible while using minimal force. Communication and real-time intelligence are key components for achieving a successful outcome. Learn the importance of having a well rounded UAS program that not only includes Drone as First Responder (DFR) and tactical deployments, but the benefits of having indoor UAS capabilities.

Nightingale’s system is able to rapidly respond to an event and get eyes on scene to monitor or record the situation. The drone is equipped with infrared and is able to fly in heavily congested RF environments using LTE alone. Nightingale has already proven itself at multiple enforcement agencies as an extremely valuable asset and force multiplier. The drone streams live video to make critical resource decisions, and records events in 4k for later use.

Skydio X10 is the ideal drone platform for public safety agencies due to its advanced autonomy and obstacle avoidance, making it reliable in the most complex environments. Equipped with AI-driven technology, the X10 can fly low and close to objects, autonomously navigating obstacles like buildings, trees, and tight spaces and being able to search for suspects by seeing clearly through windows into vehicles and buildings. Its versatility supports multiple public safety use cases, from detailed crash and crime scene documentation to handling routine calls for service in daily patrol operations, providing critical situational awareness for those who need it the most. X10 enables autonomous flight, day or night, offering powerful thermal imaging and Skydio NightSense for low-light scenarios. Whether providing real-time aerial intelligence in rapidly evolving and dynamic incidents or capturing high-resolution evidence for investigations, the Skydio X10 improves response times and increases officer safety across various missions.

Skydio’s DFR Command is the first software solution built to start, operate, and grow Drone as First Responder programs. Pre-integrated with Axon, officers can request drone overwatch by simply pushing a button on the Axon body-worn camera. A single drone pilot can operate multiple drones simultaneously, achieving unprecedented, continuous aerial coverage for every mission. Augmented reality (AR) overlays for street names, house numbers, and points of interest make situational awareness easy, helping all stakeholders quickly orient themselves to every situation. Most importantly, responding officers receive a common operating picture, live streamed to any phone or browser. Drone views can be automatically streamed to Fusus by Axon, Axon Respond, or your choice of RTCC system.
